Plot Summary
Sethe who is a former slave is now living with her eighteen year old daughter Denver in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Sweet Home Plantation. She had two sons that had ran away because it was said to belive that there was a ghost in the house haunting them and they have never came back since. Her daughter Denver likes the ghost and believes that the ghost is their dead sister. The book keeps going back in time to where she tried to kill her children and the days she was a slave. The people of the Sweet Home Plantation would take their sexual anger out on cows and rape them. They once violated Sethe in the barn and left marks on her back. Sethe had tried to kill her children to save them from getting hurt or live the life she had to live. She was successful with one and that is the ghost that is said to be abusively hurting people that enters the house. One day this woman named 'Beloved' showed up on the porch step and they believe that it is Sethe's daughter that she killed long time ago because her tombstone read Beloved.
